Social Initiatives in Africa

Dioraphte supports the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of vulnerable adolescent girls and boys aged 10–19, and young people up to 35 years old, who are at higher risk of unintended and/or early pregnancies. We support vulnerable groups facing multiple forms of discrimination. This includes girls and boys with disabilities, those living in geographically marginalized areas, communities with high prevalence of gender-based violence, and those disproportionately affected by poverty, harmful social norms, or exclusion based on identity or other socio-economic factors.

Our funding focuses on three areas:

  1. Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.

    • Comprehensive, adolescent- and youth-centered sexuality education.

    • Access to reproductive health services, including contraception, antenatal care, childbirth, and postnatal care.

  2. Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response.

  3. Access to Safe Abortion and Post-Abortion Care.

We invest in community-based initiatives that nuture and strengthen the capacity of local and regional organizations and other non-profit actors in Africa. Preference is given to innovative, small-scale projects with the potential to scale and deepen impact.

Dioraphte will explore partnerships with organizations and networks that have proven impact and operate at scale across Africa. These partners can serve as allies and conduits for supporting newer, community-based, women and youth led organizations in the form of regrantors.

Partner organizations
Eligible organizations must prioritize equality. Ideally, they are led by women and/or youth from the communities they serve. They should focus on initiatives that promote local ownership and inclusive leadership -especially leadership by adolescents, youth, and women- within the community. Geographically, we focus on a limited number of countries in East Africa where Dioraphte is already active. Our new SRHR strategy builds on lessons learned from our current portfolio and will shape our approach to country engagement moving forward.

Important to note
Dioraphte does not accept unsolicited applications. We identify potential partners directly and, when relevant, invite them to submit proposals. Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to all emails or outreach requests that are not initiated by us. We may consult external experts, under strict confidentiality, when reviewing applications.
