Poetry Circle Nowhere

Full of opportunities for talented wordsmiths

There is no school for spoken word poetry. Not for beginners. And neither for those more experienced spoken word artists with big ambitions. Poetry Circle offers them the chance to meet up and learn with one another.

Poetry Circle grew up under the wings of production house Nowhere. It offers fledgling storytellers, poets, writers and songwriters the opportunity to develop their own voice and style. They are given workshops, a personal coach and attend classes by inspiring guest teachers. In addition, there are low-key stage production evenings across nine major cities. Their productions may take many forms – think of an intimate one-woman show, large group performances or spoken-word city walks.

Overcoming obstacles

There’s a specific track for the more experiences makers: Full Circle. Here, six makers are given the opportunity to explore their authorship in more depth and to develop their subject matter together. It doesn’t just centre around their personal writing projects. But they also focus on their profession and the challenges involved, such as overcoming creative and financial obstacles along the way. The process ends with a performance or pitch during the Poetry Circle Manifestation. Venue programmers, publishers and potential funders are also invited to this event.

Growing network

The network around the spoken word is growing steadily with Poetry Circle. One can encounter these artists at festivals such as Lowlands, Oerol or De Parade. All of which, contributes to the development of this relatively new art form.
